Japanese Matcha graded and certified like Wagyu

Lumina supplies directly from farm, laboratory-graded matcha to cafés, roasters, and distributors who want proven, reliable matcha across the world — every matcha measured, certified, and traceable to the field it came from.

Matcha has no unified international grade. "Ceremonial" can mean almost anything — which means it can mean almost nothing.
Lumina exists to close that gap.

The Problem We Solve

From farm to
your café.

The more hands a lot passes through, the more its grade drifts from the truth — and the more everyone downstream pays for it.

More middlemen. Unclear quality. Higher cost.

The Lumina Grade

Four numbers.
One honest picture.

Every Lumina Matcha is analyzed by an independent laboratory before it leaves Japan. We publish the results — not a marketing tier, but the chemistry itself.

Origin

Provenance is verified independently of chemistry. A high score alone doesn't confirm a Japanese field — so we certify the two separately, on every lot.

Chemistry

Total nitrogen, free amino acids, L-theanine, and catechins are measured per 3g serving, giving buyers a real read on umami, sweetness, and bitterness before a bag is ever opened.

Application

A grade built for espresso-milk drinks reads differently than one built for usucha. We score for the use case you're actually buying for.

Why We Grade

"Made in Japan"
is losing its meaning.

Matcha production outside Japan is accelerating, and without a shared standard, the word "ceremonial" now sits on packaging that has never touched a Japanese field. Quality and origin get blurred into one another — and the premium that Japanese growers spent generations building starts to erode.

Lumina's model is borrowed from an industry that solved this exact problem: Japanese wagyu. A defined grade, an independent registry, and provenance verified separately from quality — that combination is what let wagyu keep its premium as the category globalized. We're building the same discipline for matcha, one certified lot at a time.

What We Supply

Built around how
you actually buy.

Ceremonial grade matcha powder

Ceremonial & Latte Grade

Graded and priced separately for usucha-style preparation versus milk-based drinks — so you're not overpaying for chemistry your menu doesn't use.

"We already knew Lumina was fast and consistent — samples land within a week, and every order tastes like the last one. What changed is 'ceremonial grade.' We used to just repeat the term. Now, when a customer asks what actually makes it ceremonial, we can show them the number."
